Ian Dearing is an aviation professional with over four decades of experience spanning military service, commercial aircraft engineering, senior leadership, and international regulatory oversight. His career began in the Royal Air Force as an aircraft engineer, before moving into civil aviation and progressing into senior management roles. He held a number of operational and leadership positions, including ten years as General Manager for aircraft engineering within a major global cargo operation, before transitioning into independent consultancy.
Today, Ian works closely with airlines, aircraft operators and civil aviation authorities worldwide, advising on airworthiness, regulatory compliance, organisational maturity and operational effectiveness. A significant part of Ian’s current role includes acting as Chief Airworthiness Surveyor for an international aircraft registry, supporting and leading a global team responsible for oversight of aircraft and approved organisations.
Alongside technical and regulatory expertise, Ian brings a strong focus on leadership, governance and people development. He is passionate about mentoring and supporting the next generation of aviation professionals, helping individuals and teams navigate complex decisions, regulatory challenges and leadership responsibilities with confidence.
A Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and a Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ian’s approach is grounded, practical and collaborative, shaped by years of operating in high responsibility environments where trust, clarity and sound judgement matter.
